Alien Posters

The internet rumor mill has been buzzing about a possible Alien sequel directed by Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium) and starring Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn, reprising their roles as Ellen Ripley and Corporal Dwayne Hicks, respectively. As a student of film, I have always considered Ridley Scott's original Alien to be a masterpiece of horror, and James Cameron's Aliens is one of the greatest action films ever put to celluloid. In 2011, while working on some poster designs, I had a great time considering a cohesive, sequential series on the Alien franchise. Perhaps, if some new films come out, I will be able to expand the collection.

Se7en Posters (Part I)

I have always loved the movie Se7en, and a while back I started thinking about minimalist posters for the sins depicted in the film. I am in the process of working on them and thought I'd share my progress so far.

Old Rolls, New Treasures

I love finding my old undeveloped rolls of film. I forget what I've photographed if enough time has passed, and once developed, it's a bit like opening a time capsule. We're so used to the immediacy of the digital image, we don't remember what it was like for a roll of film to sit in a camera for months, sometimes years until all of the images have been taken and the roll can be sent off for developing. We get to go back and add the images to our collective memory and perhaps remind us about who we were and what we found interesting way back when.

Snow Birds

With school closed and classes cancelled today because of the snow, I decided to bring out an old image I took during the Lake Shikotsu Snow Festival in Chitose, Hokkaido, Japan in January 2005. These three ladies were posing for a photo taken by a member of their group, and I couldn't resist taking advantage of the moment.

Beach Train

I made this composite during my first year of graduate school at MICA. I had done my Stephen Crane work the year before in grad school at SCAD, and I guess I wasn't ready to give up the technique while I searched for thesis ideas and challenges. Anyone from the area will recognize the train car as the one on Falls Road outside the Baltimore Street Car Museum.

After I posted Alpha yesterday, I thought about this image, probably because of the similarity in composition. Guess I'm a creature of habit.

Stevenson University Students, Photo 141

Found some photos I've taken of students at Stevenson University over the last year. Whenever I let them loose to shoot around campus, I go along and practice right along with them, just so they can see that there are great photos everywhere, and no one is above good practice.
